Broughty Ferry RNLI Receive donation from St Lukes & Queen St Church

At a family service in St Luke’s and Queen Street church on Sunday 7th February, Broughty Ferry RNLI attended for a cheque presentation from Sunday School children.

St Luke’s and Queen Street Sunday school children carried out coffee morning fundraiser in the autumn and raised a total of £500 to give to a charity of their choice.

The Sunday School children were asked to nominate a charity and take a vote on their preferred charity to give the money to. Daryl McKeown who helps run the Sunday School at the church said ‘one of the older boys remembered the 50th anniversary of the Lifeboat Mona disaster and asked if we could consider the local RNLI station’. It was put to a vote amongst the children and Broughty Ferry Lifeboat station was overwhelmingly chosen as the preferred recipient.

Representatives of Broughty Ferry RNLI station attended to receive the cheque for £500 during the family service. Chris Scott, Crewman at Broughty Ferry RNLI Station said ‘we were delighted to be chosen to receive the donation, and are very grateful’.

After the service, Chris Scott and Stephen Stack (Lifeboat Press Officer) gave a talk to the Sunday school children, and Stephen said ‘we are really pleased that the children are very aware of the service that RNLI volunteers provide. We are glad to see that the children recognise that the RNLI is a charity that saves lives at sea. The funds will go to crew training.’
